FAQs
What new features does the Manual of European Environmental Policy offer?
The Manual is now a fully interactive, online publication. First published in 1992, it has been restructured to reflect the changing nature and development of European environmental policy.
The new online Manual provides:
- A quick and efficient way to access analysis of over 500 Directives, Decisions and Regulations
- Direct links to legal texts, policy proposals and cases from the European Court of Justice
- Frequent updates to current legislation, plus details and analysis of any new legislation
- Advanced search options so you can quickly find what you are looking for
- Interactive features that allow you to cross-reference key terms, save entries, email them, and share with your social network
- The online version allows anyone in your institution to view the Manual at any time once you have subscribed.
What access options are available for the Manual?
We can set up access to the Manual through IP address recognition (including proxy IPs) or through username and password. The Manual will be Shibboleth compliant in early 2011.
I’ve got a subscription, but I can’t access the Manual.
If you are having trouble accessing the Manual, please email support@tandfonline.com
Where does the content come from? Can I submit a paper to be considered for the Manual?
The content is prepared by the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), a not for profit organisation with over 30 years of experience in undertaking environmental policy research. They have been responsible for creating and maintaining the content of the Manual since 1992. As such, the Manual does not accept unsolicited submissions. To find out more about the IEEP, please visit: http://www.ieep.eu
How and when will the Manual be updated?
The Manual will be updated bi-monthly throughout the year. Updates will be made direct to the site, so there will be no need to update any of the content yourself. Where a section of the Manual is updated this will be reflected in the publication date at the start of the section. The update will also feature on the home page under the Latest Updates section.
Why has the Manual been launched as an online publication?
Over nearly four decades EU environmental policy has grown in volume and complexity and now covers the whole breadth of environmental topics from climate change to biodiversity and chemicals. It now also applies to 27 Member States rather than the original handful.
With the Manual now adopting a broader pan-European focus, Taylor & Francis and the IEEP believe that to better serve the needs of our readers, it was essential that the Manual would not be an unwieldy and un-navigable publication. The shift to online means that even with an increasing amount of content, the Manual will be much easier, and more intuitive, to navigate than a paper based product. It also means that members of organisations can access the content of the Manual simultaneously, anytime, anywhere.
We previously subscribed to the loose-leaf version of the Manual. Will we still receive updates for this?
No, the loose-leaf version will no longer be updated. The Manual will now be published in print once a year as two hardback volumes. Each edition will be based on the content from the final update of the web version of the previous year.
I’d like to order a print version of the Manual, rather than the online version.
Although the Manual functions better as an interactive, searchable web based-platform, we are also offering the option to purchase an annual, bound print version. This version will be based on the content from the final update of the web version each year. For enquiries about the print version, please contact support@tandfonline.com
